The republic can be defined as an indirect or representative democracy. The democracy that the founders spoke of was direct democracy in the Aristotelian sense. They favored a more refined and qualified democratic method of republicanism. There is no socialist conspiracy that the Federal government is going to take full control. Cleon Skousen was paranoid, misinformed, and did not know the first thing about the critical writing of history.

And not limit the further reading list to books and articles which support your position–one with which I agree–because a well informed opinion knows their oppositions views as well as their own otherwise they not what they are arguing for anymore than they know what they are arguing against.
